BEGINNER Level I Classes

WEEK 1 FOR ALL LEVEL 1 CLASSES - NO DOGS.

THIS IS OUR HUMAN ONLY ORIENTATION.

We will discuss/explain

  • the importance of socialization, what it is, and what it isn’t. (It is not just having your puppy meet people and other dogs.)
  • our training “Tools for Success” and how to use them
  • positive reinforcement and clicker/marker training,  as well as our Manage and/or Train philosophy
  • problem behaviors such as  jumping up, counter surfing, barking, and over-excitement (over-arousal)

Maximizes your puppy’s socialization during their critical period of early development.

Allows for healthy, safe, and appropriate interactions with people and other puppies.

Gives opportunities for puppies to experience supervised, appropriate off leash playtime.

Offers guidance with elimination training and puppy nipping/biting.

Establishes the foundation for good behavior using positive reinforcement.

Introduces foundation behaviors for attention (name, touch cue, come when called),

sit and lay down with added duration,

leash walking management and training,

polite greeting exercises, and more.

It is NORMAL for puppies to begin class without being vaccinated for rabies. We just ask that when your puppy does get vaccinated you email us a copy of their rabies certificate for our records. It is also normal, and recommended, that puppies start class BEFORE finishing their entire vaccination series. Puppies should have at least one distemper/parvo virus vaccination before the start of class. The bordetella/kennel cough vaccination is highly recommended.

PAWSitively Obedient, Hanover – Janice Gifford CPDT-KA

Offers an introduction to basic training cues just like other level 1 classes

Allows for safe and appropriate interactions with people and other dogs their own size.

Allows for object socialization and different fun exercises beneficial to small breed dogs.

Offers a smaller class size, limited to dogs under 25lbs.

Includes leash skills and techniques to use for loose leash walking,

alllows for management of jumping up, polite greeting practice, and more.

Puppies under 18 weeks of age may not be fully vaccinated and this is NORMAL. Dogs over 18 weeks of age are typically fully vaccinated. We ask that when your dog does get vaccinated you email us a copy of their rabies certificate for our records.
