DAY TRAINING PROGRAM

Day training is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

In addition to individualized training, dogs have opportunities for socialization and supervised play with appropriate canine partners. These interactions are carefully managed to ensure they remain safe, positive, and beneficial.

Because successful training extends beyond our facility, every Day Training package includes private coaching sessions after every four training days. These sessions help you understand what your dog has learned and how to continue practicing those skills at home, ensuring consistency and long-term success.

Every Day Training package includes:

  • A personalized training video after each session so you can see your dog’s progress
  • A detailed email after each session explaining what your dog worked on and learned
  • A private training session with your dog’s trainer after every four Day Training sessions
  • A treat pouch, training clicker, sample of high-value treats, and indoor training leash
  • A copy of our training manual and any supplemental training resources or PDFs
  • A front-clip harness, sized specifically for your dog

What is Day Training?

Day Training is not a daycare program. While traditional daycare can be a great outlet for some dogs to play and burn energy, Day Training is focused on building skills, developing good habits, and creating lasting behavior change.

Our Day Training program is designed to build a strong foundation for future training success. Dogs are dropped off to work one-on-one with a professional trainer, where they learn and practice essential life skills in a structured environment with other dogs, people, and real-world distractions. We focus on teaching, rewarding, and reinforcing desired behaviors while preventing, managing, and redirecting unwanted behaviors.

Day Training is also a great option for busy dog owners. Your dog receives professional training throughout the day, allowing them to make meaningful progress even when your schedule makes it difficult to fit in training sessions on your own.

What is Day Training like for your dog?

How do I sign up?

We start with a TRIAL DAY.

A Trial Day helps us determine whether Day Training is the right fit for your dog and gives your dog the opportunity to become familiar with our training environment before starting the program.

During the Trial Day, we assess your dog’s comfort level with a variety of experiences, including working with our trainers, being around other dogs, resting in a crate, playpen, or on a tether during downtime, and navigating a busy training environment. We also introduce some training exercises, but our primary goal is helping your dog feel safe, comfortable, and confident while spending time with us without their family present.

Dogs learn best when they feel comfortable in their environment. By taking the time to build a positive experience from the start, we can better support your dog’s success throughout the Day Training program.

At the end of the Trial Day, we’ll discuss how your dog did, answer any questions, and determine the next steps for their training journey.

After a successful Trial Day, you will be invited to choose a Training Package such as:

What if my dog cannot rest comfortably in a crate, etc?

If your dog cannot rest comfortably in a crate, playpen, or on a tether OR if you just prefer your dog not stay for a full day, we do offer a two hour drop off training program as well.

We create a two hour training appointment during our day training hours just for your dog. This offers the same amount of training time for your dog as our full day program. The training is done all in one session rather than being split up into smaller sessions over the course of the day.

  • 4 sessions (2 hours each session) – $559
  • 8 sessions (2 hours each session) –$1079
  • 12 sessions (2 hours each session) – $1589
  • 16 sessions (2 hours each session) – $2079

Packages can be upgraded if done before or at your last scheduled session.

How many days/week are recommended?

We typically recommend once per week so that you, the owner, have time in between sessions to work on skills at home. Sometimes, it may be beneficial to do twice per week as long as the dog has a day or two in between sessions. We will make recommendations based on your dog and their particular needs.

How is my dog's time structured?

You drop your dog off with us in the morning and your dog will spend one-on-one time throughout the day with a professional trainer. If it is appropriate, there will be time to play with other dogs. If not, they will get toy play breaks with humans. The importance of day school is to give your dog a place to come learn and get a structured day, so too much play would be counterproductive. Dogs will get plenty of breaks that will require them to rest calmly in a crate, in a play pen, or on a training tether. This allows them time to process their learning and is very important for growing puppies. At the end of their training, you will pick up a tired dog, and receive a progress report with skills we worked on via email. Day training is NOT a replacement for the work you do at home with your dog but you will notice progress a lot faster, and behavior sticking better!

What are the benefits of day training?

Your dog learns one-on-one from a professional trainer. We work on the age-appropriate skills and help build reinforcement history for important behaviors. We also help practice training cues (both verbal and hand signals) in different environments, inside and outside. This helps build a dog more fluent in training.

Is there an "ideal age" or life stage that is best for day training?

We will happily accommodate any age dog, but our programs are ideal for young puppies and adolescent dogs.

At this time cannot accept dogs with aggression towards people or dogs in the day training program. Dogs that are selective – or don’t want to play – but coexist just fine are more than welcome.

what does my dog need in order to start the program?

We require the following for every dog starting day training:

  1. An exam with your veterinarian within the last year.
  2. At least one vaccination for distemper and parvo virus a minimum of 7 days prior to starting.
  3. Kennel cough/Bordetella vaccination a minimum of 7 days prior to starting.
  4. Results of a fecal test from your veterinarian’s office within the last 6 months.
  5. Proof of rabies can be submitted once completed. Note: it is normal for puppies to start school without this vaccination on board. It usually is not given until around 16 weeks of age.
  6. Staying up to date on their vaccination schedule as recommended by your veterinarian.

Proof must be provided via email to hello@pawstivelyobedient.com prior to your dog starting school.

Puppies in day training or group classes may not have received all of their vaccinations yet. If you are concerned about this, speak to your veterinarian. Every day that goes by without socializing and training for young pup is a day lost to his or her social future. We follow the guidelines for socialization put out by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior – please view their statement here.

what does my dog need to bring to day training?

You’ll want to send your dog to training with the following supplies:

  • Zip lock bag with their “kibble” (dry dog food), and at least two different types of treats.
  • A “mat” such as a blanket, towel, or bath mat for their specific go to place behavior.
  • Kong or other stuff-able food toy stuffed with either puppy wet food, peanut butter, or yogurt mixed with kibble.
